Lead with curiosity
Try asking, “What would make things easier around the house?” Give your parent time to answer before offering a solution.
Use a specific example
A conversation about a difficult shower entry is easier to explore than a statement that the whole home is unsafe. Describe what you noticed without assigning blame.
Offer choices
Ask whether they would prefer to research together, try a small change, or speak with a professional. Keep control of the decision with them wherever possible.
Leave space for another conversation
Agreement may take more than one discussion. If there is an immediate safety concern or a change in health, seek appropriate professional help.
